Long Island is Overpopulated and Overrated
Long Island is known for having the best of everything —especially the beaches, the pizza, and the bagels. Some think of living on Long Island as a luxury, with its melting pot of different heritages and having the greatest city in the world just a short train ride away. I love Long Island and am grateful to have had the opportunity to bask in all of its glory, but that glory is very short-lived. Long Island is extremely overpopulated, with about 8 million people crammed onto this little island. People probably spend more hours sitting in traffic than they do sleeping on Long Island. The overwhelming amount of hot-headed Italians that live on Long Island give it a very unsettling, unfriendly tone. People on Long Island aren't warm and inviting, and they really couldn't care less to know how your day is going. I couldn't fathom living the rest of my life in one setting without seeing the rest of the world. I was looking for a bit of a culture shock, and a change of pace in my life. Residing in North Carolina has given me that perfect dose of southern hospitality that I desperately desired, as well as beautiful weather and an even more beautiful university.
High Point University is Nothing Short of Extraordinary
At the end of my junior year of high school, I decided to narrow my college search down to schools in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, to fulfill my desire of living in a place I had yet to discover. My mom had told me about High Point University, and being a stubborn, independent teenager, I was hesitant to visit because I had never heard of it. From the minute I stepped onto campus back in July 2014, I fell in love. This place is everything that I imagined and then some. The ever-changing, innovative atmosphere that this university possesses is something I'm proud to be apart of, and makes me excited for the future. I truly believe that this university will give me the tools to succeed in my career and beyond.
